Class Size

With just around 250 students per full-time MBA class, Haas is the smallest of the top ten MBA programs. Why does size matter, you ask?

  • Most likely, the largest course you'll ever take at Haas will max out around 65 students — the size of your first year cohort. Elective courses will be even smaller, with many between 30-40 students.
  • You'll get to know every single person in your class as more than just “that person who sat across the aisle from me in accounting.” Small classes foster lively dialogue and debate with peers, not to mention strong relationships with faculty.
  • You'll feel more comfortable taking risks. In a classroom environment where you know your peers — what they stand for, where they came from, what they have accomplished, and how they hope to shape the future — you will have plenty of safe spaces to try and sometimes fail and learn.
  • You'll have a wealth of opportunities to take on leadership roles. When students know they are unconditionally supported by their peers — without judgement — they are more likely to try new things outside of their comfort zone. And with so many leadership roles to choose from, it's not uncommon for students to say — become Co-President of the Haas Marketing Club, VP of Food@Haas, and/or an active participant in 5 other campus organizations.

A Tight-Knit Community in the Heart of a Large Public University

At Haas you get the best of both worlds — benefiting from the small class size and individualized attention in your MBA coursework, while also leveraging opportunities throughout the larger UC Berkeley campus. There are numerous opportunities for cross-pollination with access to high-caliber colleagues at other UC Berkeley top-ranked graduate programs.
